Jane, 51 had lived a life in chaos, surrounded by drugs and family troubles, but since 2014 has been in recovery and after accepting support from organisations that focus on mental health and parenting, she has been able to put a lot of negativity behind her.
This is a great story about a woman who benefitted from the social prescribing initiative at Unity in Community. Since September they have been offering FREE fitness, craft and wellness classes at their community hub on Orchard Park in Hull.

Although Jane is not originally from the area, over the last 4 years she has been living in Hull with her youngest son and participating in a variety of training courses at Unity in Community. In September they invited her to participate in the social prescribing initiative, which works alongside NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group, Hull City Council and Connect Well, to provide a range of free activities and events.

'Juggling Jane'
'Juggling Jane' (read the news article to know why she goes by this name) wanted to share her story, hoping to inspire and help others with similar life experience. We wrote it up for her and Debbie Hall at Hull LIVE recently published it.

Over the years, Jane has been separated from her children but, as a result of this being published in Hull Daily Mail | HullLive, Jane has been contacted by two of her daughters wanting to get their relationship back on track.

Human Interest
The greatest part of our job is being able to share human interest stories. People want to read about people and, as much as purveyors of click bait might assume we only want to read news that gets an angry reaction, we are pleased to say that good news also makes for popular reading.

Job Satisfaction to the max!
As a PR, this is a very rewarding part of the job. Positive PR really does make a difference.

Please note, Jane wanted to use her full name and a photo, even though she thought people might troll her online. We’re happy to report that the reaction has been quite the opposite and Jane is receiving lots of lovely messages of support.

Social Prescribing is being described as a lifeline to the NHS. As such, Unity in Community is offering free craft, fitness and wellbeing classes, ranging from Boxercise to Christmas crafts this is an opportunity to try something new, meet other people, practice self-care, or get creative.

Liam Woods, Project Manager at Unity in Community says:
“We are so pleased to see how far Jane has come with support from around the whole city (Hull). She is a shining example of how social prescribing is helping people.

“Since we launched our initiative in September, we’ve engaged hundreds of local people in our fitness, craft and wellbeing classes. Some people with complex life experiences and others who are feeling lonely and isolated. Whatever the need, social prescribing is proving to be part of the solution.”
